초록

This paper is considered as an introduction of the Group Research “The Modern Women Playwrights in Germany”, in which the Works of Else Lasker-Schüler, Marieluise Fleißer, Nelly Sachs, Gerlind Reinshagen, Elfride Jelinek, Marlene Streeruwitz etc are analyzed. It also surveys female playwrights in German theatre's history briefly: from Hrosvith von Gandersheim via Caroline Neuber including many forgotten female playwrights of 18th and 19th centuries to the modern playwrights. The role and position of female playwrights began to change starting from the early 20th century due to the first movement of women's emancipation as well as the changing concept of Drama of this time. The traditional Form of Drama was regarded not being able to express the changed time, therefore a new form was asked to be developed: a lot of new theatre forms, non-Aristotle, epic forms were experimented with. The female playwrights also experimented with new forms of drama, some of which are accepted in the traditionally male-dominant field of art and literature. But the Third Reich with its fascistic ideology forced women into home and kitchen, so that women could not take part in the theatre field. This tendency had continued long after the fall of NS regime, until 1970's. Since the 80's however - with the exception of Reinshagen in the 70's - a lot of women playwrights have emerged as Friederike Roth, Jelinek, Steinwachs, Streeruwitz etc whose works are discussed in this paper from the aspect of theatre style, critics on fascism, and of the aspect of women's sexuality and women's ego.
