With the change of the new generation, as the desire to be beautiful and healthy is getting higher, the beautytherapy field which is one of the most sought after jobs in the modern society is getting segmented and developed as a professional job. In this study the characteristics of beautytherapy department students were classified using MBTI (Myers‐Briggs Type Indicator) theory and career paths according to their characteristics type were analyzed. In the relationship between 16 character types and career selection, INFJ and ESFP showed the same preference on make‐up and aesthetics and INTJ, ENFP and ESFJ preferred aesthetics field. ISTP showed the same ratio of preference on hair design, make‐up and aesthetics, ISFP preferred hair design and INFP showed the same ratio of the answers such as hair design and ‘Don’t know’. ESTP, ESTJ, ENFJ, and ENTJ answered that they would prefer make‐up best and INTP and ENTP answered ‘Don’t know’ most frequently. It means they preferred different type or work in accordance with their characteristics type. (x2=144.23 P=<.0001) In the relationship between the psychological functional type and career selection, ST and SF showed the preference on aesthetics field, NT answered ‘Don’t know’ and NF showed the preference on make‐up, which shows the psychological type influences on the career selection. (x2=37.191 P=0.001) In the trend of changing times, it will be segmented and developed furthermore and all the students who study cosmetics should have proper academic research guidance and career guidance. We may be able to contribute to the development of more professionalized beautytherapy field only when we don’t guide the students with the visible criteria but provide the direction for career selection considering the influences of their characteristics on their career selection.
