우리 근대사는 여러 면에서 ‘暴力의 世紀’라고 불릴 수 있는데 그 중심에 놓여 있는 것이 바로 韓國戰爭이라 할 수 있다. 폭력은 그것이 그 시대에 하나의 문학적인 制度로서 容認되는 순간에만 비로소 문학 속에 자리잡게 된다. 본고에서는 이러한 전제하에 當代의 문학 속에서 전쟁 또는 폭력에 대한 구체적인 묘사가 이루어질 수 없었던 이유를 설명하고, 작가 徐基源이 어떻게 그러한 한계들을 극복하고자 했는가를 밝히고자 한다. 초기 소설에서 시대의 폭력들을 해명하고자 노력했던 그는, 훗날 金恩國의 殉敎者를 읽으면서 “우리의 현실 속에서는 왜 그런 소설이 씌어질 수 없었는가”라고 反問함으로써, 戰爭과 그 暴力性을 묘사해 낸 그의 소설들이 지닌 한계들이 개인적인 능력의 부족 때문이 아님을 지적한다. 데뷔작인 安樂死論에서 이미 그는 당대의 폭력성에 대한 생생한 描寫를 시도했는데, 이러한 再現行爲에는 方法論과 勇氣가 동시에 요구되었다.
Abstract
A Study on the Aspects of Representation of Violence in Seo Ki-won's Novel Son, Jong-eup Korean modern history can be called “The century of violence” in various ways and “Korean War” is the center of the history. However, I do not agree that the experience of war can make the all narratives about war possible. Violence itself could not be melted in the literature as an important factor until the violence can be approved as a literary narrative in those times. In this thesis with these assumptions, I try to explain the reason why the specific description could not be possible in those times, and I try to find out the ways how the author, Seo Ki-won dealt successfully with those limitations.At least, I can see his trials to explain of violence of his times in his first novels. Afterward he pointed out the problems which is the limitation of description can not beyond the reality, not belongs to the authors themselves by questioning that “Why those kind of novel including violence as a factor in our reality is impossible?” reading “A martyr” written by Kim Eun-kook. “Methodology” and “Courage”, two both things was needed for vivid description of those times.
