Abstract

In his novel, Kim, Yu-jeong's characters seem naive and their reckless act give rise to humor, which has permitted his reputation to be a writer without historical perspective. But in this paper, I will assume that the oral stylistics of his novels is a frame of discourse in order to revel the poverty of rural communities, on which is based the thorough historical outlook under the rule of Japanese imperialism. Kim, Yu-jeong rightly recognizes that the poverty of rural society was rooted in the tenant farming and is vividly portrayed in his novel though the use of colloquial style language. By using the language of repeated synonyms which is one of the importance future of oral literature, audiences are to focus on the cruel lives of characters. And he employed dialogical communication style so that narrator became expressed mutual sympathy with the audience. Also, Kim, Yu-jeong utilizes a method of riddle throughout his novels to let his audiences explore their imagination in understanding the cruelty of rural society. Through his effective use of character's idiolect, a strong common cultural and communal identity is formulated among character, narrator, and audience.
