이 논문의 목적은 언어 변화 기제로서의 過度 矯正의 槪念을 재검토하고, 과도 교정의 구체적인 機制를 밝히는 것이다. 특히 20世紀 初 咸北 方言 자료를 중심으로 과도 교정에 의한 음운 변화에 대하여 논의한다. 이 논문에서 주장하는 바는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 언어 변화 기제로서의 과도 교정은 발화 해석 과정에서 촉발된 현상으로서 再解釋의 일종이다. 둘째, 과도 교정적 재해석은 進行 中인 音韻 變化가 일반화되어, 그러한 변화의 개신형이 標識 혹은 常套形의 단계에 이르렀을 때 그에 대한 반작용으로서 일어난다. 따라서 과도 교정적 재해석은 발화 산출 과정상의 공시적 음운 교체 및 진행 중인 음운 변화와 밀접하게 연관되어 있다. 셋째, 발화 해석 과정에서 競爭하는 두 解析 方式이 있을 때, 해당 언어 공동체 내에서 言衆이 보다 민감하게 意識하는 음운 교체와 연관된 과도 교정이 우선적으로 일어난다.
Abstract
Hypercorrection as a Mechanism of the Language Change - Focusing on the North Hamgyeong Dialect of the Early Years of the 20th Century So, Shin-ae The purpose of this article is to reexamine the notion of hypercorrection as a mechanism of the language change and to clarify its specific mechanism. This article examines phonological changes caused by hypercorrection using data from the North Hamgyeong dialect of the early years of the 20th century. The main arguments of this article are as follows. First, hypercorrection as a mechanism of the language is a kind of reinterpretation, which is actuated in the speech interpretation process. Second, hypercorrective reinterpretation is closely related to ongoing phonological changes and synchronic phonological alternation in the speech production process. Third, when there are competing ways of hypercorrection, the one related to the phonological variable that has higher degree of social consciousness in the language community occurs preferentially.
