The aim of this paper is to introduce an alternative analysis of opacity problems in Korean phonology. Recently palatalization, umlaut, syllabification, irregular conjugations and tensification of verbal inflection in Korean have been investigated by researchers. From a theoretical point of view, these phonological alternations appear to be similar for their opacity. However, it is argued in this paper that these opacities can be ascribed to different factors, which are due to the historical change of phonological rule or constraint, sociolinguistic variation and analogical change by paradigm uniformity. In Korean, only the tensification of verbal inflection raises an opacity problem in non-serial OT framework.
