安廓(1886~1946)은 30代에 한때 獨立運動에 관여하기도 하였으나, 一生을 國語, 國文學, 國史, 國樂 그리고 美術史 등 여러 분야를 연구한 國學의 巨木으로, 대표적인 著書인 朝鮮文明史(1923)를 비롯한 6, 7권의 저서와 수많은 論文, 論說을 남겼다. 國語硏究는 당시 學界의 當面課題인 語文整理問題에 대하여 보수적 견해로써 朝鮮語學會의 學者와 첨예하게 대립한 사실로 유명하다. 곧 그들이 주장하는 新語의 使用과 관련하여 諺文에 대신한 한글이란 名稱의 不當性을 지적하고, 各自竝書에 의한 된소리 표기와 받침에 모든 初聲의 使用을 극구 반대한 것이다. 1930年代 맞춤법과 標準語의 公布로 그의 주장은 끝내 받아들여지지 않았다. 그러나 그와 상관 없이 그의 主張이 語文整理의 歷史에 한 軸을 이룰 뿐 아니라, 한글의 樂理 기원론에도 음미할 내용이 없지 않다. 이런 점에서 學界를 위해서 그의 주장을 소개한 것이다.
Abstract
The Life of Ahn, Hwak and His Korean Language Study Ahn, Pyong-hi Ahn, Hwak[安廓] was once involved in the independence movement against Japan in his thirties. But, most of all, he devoted his whole life to the study of Korean language, Korean literature, Korean classical music, art history and other various fields. As a result of this, he produced lots of dissertations and seven books including “The civilizational history of Joseon”(朝鮮文明史, 1923), which is his repre- sentative book.His Korean language study regarding the task straightening the linguistic rule of Korean, an urgent problem of the academic world of that time, was conservative, which was sharply opposed to the scholars’ view of “Joseon-eo-hak-hoe[朝鮮語學會]”. Namely, concerning about their assertion of using new words, he not only point out the unreasonableness of the official name of “Hangul” instead of “Eon-mun[諺文]”, but also object to recording glottalized sounds and using all first consonant at the part of a final consonant by “Gak-ja-byoung-seo[各自竝書(ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, ㅉ)]”. However, his suggestion could not be accepted due to the promulgation of the rules of spelling and the standard language in 1930's. Nevertheless, he is surely the scholar whose assertion not only made a big leapfrog in the history of the task straightening the linguistic rule of Korean, but also gave an aspiration to other related studies.
