본고는 장편 無情 창작의 源泉이라 할 수 있는 이광수의 初期 短篇들이 가지는 의미를 考察한 것이다. 일본어로 씌어진 이광수의 처녀작 사랑인가가 自律性을 획득한 근대적 의미의 한 個人을 創出함과 동시에 민족적 알레고리의 형식으로 식민지시대 초기 조선인 유학생의 文明世界에 대한 강력한 熱望과 挫折感을 표현한 경우라면, 後續 작품 어린 犧牲은 强者에 대한 弱者의 저항을 飜案物 형태의 啓蒙的 敍事形式으로 표출하고 있다. 그리고 無情, 獻身者, 金鏡은 식민지로 轉落해 가는 민족적 현실 속에서 새로운 형식의 소설을 추구했던 작가의 노력을 대변하는 작품들이다. 李光洙는 이와 같은 實驗的 習作을 통해 새로운 소재와 주제를 실험하면서 그가 오랫동안 구상해 온 장편창작의 길로 나아가 紀念碑的인 無情을 낳게 된다. 이광수의 초기 단편들은 人物創造와 主題設定 등의 측면에서 장편 無情의 탄생에 직간접적인 방식으로 영향을 끼쳤다.
Abstract
The Kwang-soo Lee's Literature and an Experience of Colonial Modernity Lim, Young-bong This thesis examined significance of Kwang-soo Lee's early short stories which can be seen as underlying the creation of novel Cold-heartedness(無情). His maiden work written in Japanese Is it love(愛か, 사랑인가), through skeptical activities of the hero, created an autonomous individual of a modern sense and also depicted in the form of national allegory a Korean student in Japan who experienced an ardent desire and frustration related to civilized society at the early colonial times of Korea. A following work A young sacrifice(어린 犧牲), however, expressed resistance of the weak against the strong in the narrative form of an illuminative adapted story.Short story Cold-heartedness(無情), Dedicator(獻身者), Kyung Kim(金鏡) are representative of the author's effort for novels of a new form in the reality of his nation degraded into a Japanese colony. Through those experimental studies, Kwang-soo Lee made a test on new materials and themes for a novel and advanced toward the creation of a full-length novel, which finally came up with novel cold-heartedness(無情), work of a monument. Kwang-soo Lee's early novelettes made a direct contribu- tion to the germination of novel Cold-heartedness(無情).
