濟州方言 談話標識 ‘계메’의 韻律的 特性과談話的 機能의 相關關係

本考의 目的은 자유 발화를 토대로 제주방언 담화표지 ‘계메’의 韻律的 特性과 談話的 機能을 살피는 것이다. ‘계메’는 ‘불분명한 태도, 완곡한 부정, 강조, 시간 벌기, 발언권 가져오기’의 5가지 談話 機能으로 發話에서 實現된다. 不分明한 態度의 機能으로 나타나는 ‘계메’는 다른 機能들에 비해서 發話 位置와 음높이 유형이 다양하게 나타나는 特性을 보인다. 그리고 婉曲한 否定의 機能으로 나타나는 ‘계메’는 평균 發話 길이가 다른 4가지 機能들과 비교하면 중간 정도로 實現되며 주로 低調의 음높이 유형을 가지고 나타난다. 時間 벌기의 談話的 機能의 ‘계메’는 가장 긴 發話 길이를 지님과 동시에 後行하는 休止 區間을 갖는다. ‘強調, 發言權 가져오기’ 機能으로 실현되는 ‘계메’는 다른 機能들에 비해서 짧은 發話 길이를 가지며, 高調로 實現되어 유사한 韻律的 特性을 보인다. 하지만 ‘發言權 가져오기’의 機能을 할 때는 先行 發話와 겹쳐서 實現된다는 측면에서 ‘強調’의 기능과 구별된다. 즉 제주방언 담화표지 ‘계메’는 그 談話的 機能에 따라 韻律的 特性이 다르게 실현되며, 이는 談話的 機能과 韻律的 特性이 서로 相關關係에 놓여 있음을 보여주는 것으로 해석된다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the discourse marker ‘-kjeme’ for its prosodic features according to their functions, as well as to examine the patterns of prosodic features related to these functions. For this purpose, I analyzed the speech of 30 speakers of Jeju Korean and I also analyzed the marker’s prosodic features by using phonetic equipment and acoustic materials. After careful analyzation, I have sorted out five functions among various discourse-textual functions of ‘-kjeme’: uncertain manner, negative manner, hesitation, emphasis, and interruption of utterance. I found by looking at the function of negative manner, that the average length of utterance is medial and mostly has low pitch when compared to the other four functions. When ‘-kjeme’ occurs through the function of delay, it has the longest average length of utterance and at the same time has a pause that follows. The function of emphasis and the interruption of utterance have a short length of utterance when compared to the other functions and also have similar prosodic features to each other. The interruption of utterance is different, however, from the function of emphasis in that the function of interruption of utterance is realized as an overlapping utterance. Consequently, prosodic features are important in the analyzation of categorical characteristics and important in the establishment of the functions of the discourse marker ‘-kjeme’.
