15世紀 國語와 標準語의 音韻對應 程度에 대한 연구

우리는 中世國語에서 개별 音素들이 어떤 音으로 실현되었는지 정확히 알지 못한다. 이러한 상황은 언어가 변한 정도를 확인하기 위하여 15세기 國語와 標準語의 단어들을 音韻論的으로 비교할 때 가장 큰 장애 요인이 된다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 어려움을 극복하기 위하여 比較言語學에서 사용하는 ‘音韻對應’ 방법을 이용하였다. Maguire(2008)에서는 方言 사이의 관계를 확인하기 위하여, 음운대응 중 優勢한 音韻對應의 예를 찾아내어 그 결과를 數値化하였는데, 본 연구에서는 이 방법을 通時的인 축에 적용함으로써 15세기 국어와 표준어 사이의 음운대응 정도를 파악하고자 한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 上位 頻度 標準語 3,000개 중 15세기의 문헌에서 발견되는 571개의 단어를 선별한 후, 제1음절 위치의 韻素 대응 관계와 제1음절 初聲부터 제2음절 中聲까지의 音素 대응 관계를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 語頭에서 멀어질수록 音韻變化가 많이 일어나며, 제1음절의 초성과 중성 그리고 제2음절의 초성에서 일어난 음운변화가 제1음절의 종성이나 제2음절의 중성에서 일어난 음운변화보다 더 規則的이라는 사실을 확인하였다.
Abstract
We do not fully understand how the phonemes of Middle Korean were phonetically implemented. This becomes the biggest barrier to comparing the words of 15th century Korean and Standard Korean to determine the extent to which Korean language has changed. In order to overcome this difficulty, this study utilized the ‘sound correspondence’ method of comparative linguistics: I adopted the method of which Maguire(2008) took advantage for quantifying the similarity among English dialects into the study on diachronic development of Korean. As a result, I found out the followings: i) the farther from the word initial position, the more sound change had occurred, and ii) the sounds had changed more regularly at the onset and the nucleus of the first syllable and the onset of the second syllable than the coda of the first syllable or the nucleus of the second syllable.
