Abstract
This study aimed to classify the types of creative metacognition among pre-service early childhood teachers based on the subcomponents of creative metacognition and to explore whether there were differences in domain-specific creativity, creative self-efficacy, and openness according to each type. To this end, latent profile analysis was conducted using data from 196 pre-service early childhood teachers enrolled in teacher training institutions. The results of the study are as follows. First, based on the multidimensional subcomponents of creative metacognition (problem identification, idea generation, idea improvement, and idea implementation), three groups were identified: the “Moderate Metacognition Group,” the “Low Generation–High Implementation Group,” and the “Low Identification–High Generation Group.” Second, the distribution of pre-service early childhood teachers across these groups was 39.8% in the Moderate Metacognition Group, 33.2% in the Low Generation–High Implementation Group, and 27.0% in the Low Identification–High Generation Group. Third, significant differences were found in domain-specific creativity, creative self-efficacy, and openness according to the type of creative metacognition. In terms of artistic creativity, both the Moderate Metacognition Group and the Low Identification–High Generation Group showed higher levels than the Low Generation–High Implementation Group. Regarding mechanical and scientific creativity, the Moderate Metacognition Group outperformed the Low Generation–High Implementation Group. Creative self-efficacy and openness were also higher in the Moderate Metacognition Group and the Low Identification–High Generation Group than in the Low Generation–High Implementation Group. The study concludes with a discussion of its academic and practical implications, as well as suggestions for future research directions.
