집중학습 방법이 엔젤만증후군 아동의소변보기 향상에 미친 영향

본 연구는 이전에 전통적인 시간관리 방법으로 소변지도를 받았으나 효과를 보지 못했던 3명의 엔젤만증후군 아동을 대상으로 Azrin과 Foxx(1971)에 제안했던 집중학습 소변지도 방법을 수정ㆍ보완하여 소변보기 훈련을 실시한 결과를 보고자하였다. 비동시적 대상자간 중다기초선설계를 실시하여 소변보기 훈련을 학교와 가정에서 부모와 교사가 실시하였다. 훈련 결과, 2명의 아동은 만족스러운 성공적인 결과를 보였지만, 다른 한명의 아동은 좀더 장기적인 훈련이 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 소변보기와 관련하여 아동의 현재 언어 발달 수준을 고려한 의사표현 방법을 소변지도가 이루어지는 동안 실생활 속에서 동시에 지도하였다는 점에서 성공적인 효과의 한 요인이라고 여겨진다. 즉, 소변보기 행동과 그림이나 몸짓 등을 활용한 소변지도는 소변보기 프로그램의 효과를 증대시키고, 실질적으로 사용가능할 수 있는 의사소통 기술 확장의 의미도 가질 수 있다고 하겠다. 이 연구의 결과 중증장애 아동들의 기본적인 일상생활기술과 관련한 현장 적용 프로그램의 보급에 대한 필요성에 대한 논의가 필요하고 소변지도와 이에 대한 기본적인 자기 통제력을 가질 수 있도록 아동과 가족, 아동 교육을 담당하는 교사들의 집중적인 훈련과정과 현장에서의 적용 가능성에 대한 논의 등을 제기하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of massed practice on the independent toileting skills of children with Angelman syndrome who had not been successful to a traditional toilet program. Three children with Angelman syndrome were participated in the massed toileting practice that were revised from a method suggested by Azrin & Foxx(1971). Using a nonsimultaneous multiple baseline across subjects design, the children were taught both in school and at home by teachers and parents. Results showed that the program was successful to the two participant children, but the third participant was not, though. It was worth pointing out that the program had been implemented in the contexts of children’s daily life activities while teaching them expressive communication skills. In other words, toilet program that incorporated toilet use modeling, picture use, and gesture use seemed to be effective and might extend communication skill repertoire of children. Findings also suggested the need of development and systematic dissemination of effective self-care program.
