Abstract

This study was conducted by case study on deaf parent's(N=10) and deaf child(N=10) in Kyongbook, and Kyonggi province. The main purpose of this study was to identify parent's recognition of introducing cued speech through foreign words and neologism of Korean. We conducted deep interviews three times. A fact to face interview was conducted at the first time. Then, phone interviews were conducted for the next two times. Phoneme level discrimination test was conducted by nonsence words through deaf children’s residual hearing and lip reading, which was divided into oneset rime coda parts. The test was done three times by researchers, teachers and parents each. Results showed 1) Hearing parents with deaf parents are using only 20.85% of foreign words or neologism of Korean although they reported 76.% of communication was done by aural-oral way. The parents replaced another words or removed the neologism and foreign words in the communication. 2) With hearing support equipments, Phoneme level discrimination results were 49.6% of accuracy, and coda was harder than onset and rime. 3) Hearing parents reported that foreign words and neologism were challenging in communication between deaf children, so they use chosen words for their child. they responsed that spoken language supporting system like cued speech is extremely necessary(Likert scale 9.5/10).
