Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the job satisfaction of privatecorrectional officers who are engaged in special work conditions different fromother civil servants while working for convicts' correction and rehabilitation, and toprovide political suggestions for the improvement of job satisfaction. For this study, the survey was conducted on 104 Private correctional officers inactive service at Somang Correctional Institutions. As analytical methods, this studyperformed a frequency analysis, Mann-whitney U test, Kruskal-wallis H test andSpearman Correlation by using SPSS program. The results of this study showed that job satisfaction of private correctionalofficers was high except role ambiguity. But, They were unsatisfactory insatisfaction of external rewards; salary, monetary/social rewards, promotionopportunity. In private prison, They were very satisfactory in interpersonal relations withsuperior, colleagues, inmates except supervisors of the Department of Justice. Wecompared with satisfaction in accordance with the position of correctional officers. Correctional officers who is upper than 7th grade was highly satisfactory and itwas significant difference to awareness of job dangerousness among division ofprivate prison. Also, the more correctional officer's age is old, the more jobsatisfaction is high but it was not significant correlation between age and workperiod. To increase job satisfaction, the first of all, we have to treat as equals in laborconditions of correctional officer. Second, we must provide opportunities of socialrewards by implementing personnel affairs system. Third, We need to changesupervisor system of Department of Justice for role reinforcement and autonomy ofcorrectional officers. Finally, we should perform job stress management programsfor diminishing job dangerousness of correctional officers.
