주양육자와 교사가 인식하는 위스타트사업 성과: 경기도 G시 교육·복지사업을 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 경기도 G시 위스타트사업에 대해 주양육자와 교사가 인식하는 성과의 내용을 깊이 있게 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 사업에 참여했던 아동의 주양육자(14명)와 학교교사(7명)를 대상으로 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 진행하여 위스타트사업이 참여자들에게 실제로 어떤 도움이 되었는지를 파악하였다. 질적 자료 분석 결과, 사업성과는 아동의 변화 차원과 주양육자 및 가족의 변화 차원으로 구분될 수 있었다. 아동 차원은 다시 사회성과 학교적응 측면의 변화로, 주양육자 및 가족 차원은 주양육자 당사자와 양육환경 및 가족의 변화 측면으로 사업 성과의 범주가 보다 세분화되었다. 아동의 사회성 변화로는 아동의 성격이 밝아지고 활달해졌으며, 자신감 고양, 더불어 사는 능력 증진, 친구관계 향상, 비행행동으로 인한 위기 극복 등이 확인되었다. 학교적응과 관련해서는 리더십, 전반적인 학교생활, 학습습관, 학업능력이 향상되었다는 내용이 도출되었다. 주양육자 및 가족 차원에서는 두려움을 극복하고 이웃들과 소통하게 됨, 부모역할을 찾아감 등의 주양육자의 변화와, 자녀를 보호해 주어 주양육자의 마음이 편해짐, 부모 역할 보충으로 부모 부담감을 덜어줌, 주양육자의 자립 지원, 가정의 문제 해결 지원 등 양육환경이 조성됨, 가족애가 높아짐, 아동의 변화가 가정의 분위기를 바꿈 등 가족관계가 개선된 부분이 성과로 파악되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 논의와 함께 추후 사업의 방향성에 대한 함의를 도출하였다.
Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the outcomes of the 5-year We Start Project in general, Education and Welfare Programs in particular for G-dong, G City, Gyeonggi Province from the perspectives of the participants. For this study purpose, three focus group interviews were conducted with 7 school teachers and 14 primary caregivers of children participating in We Start programs. Study results indicate that We Start programs had positive impacts with regard to child development The examples are children's improvement of social competence, self-esteem, study habit and school adaptation. The programs also affected primary caregivers and families in positive ways. The primary caregivers reported that they came to feel less stress and could put more focus on their role as parents with various supports from We Start Programs. Futhermore, the families participated in the program were changed to enjoy being together and talking each other. In discussion, the study results were compared to previous quantitative studies on the outcomes of We Start programs and the implication of study results were presented.
