본 연구는 다문화 가정 아동의 이중언어 경험을 이해함으로써 이들이 건강하게 자랄 수 있도록 돕기 위한 실천적 대안을 모색하는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 ‘다문화 가정 아동의 이중언어 경험의 본질과 그 의미는 무엇인가?’의 연구문제를 가지고, 최근까지 이중언어를 사용하면서 어머니의 출신 국가가 비영어권인 아동 5명의 연구참여자를 대상으로 지오르기(Giorgi)의 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 12개의 주제로 유목화하여 5개의 중심의미가 도출되었다. 다문화 가정 아동의 이중언어 경험의 중심의미로는 ‘늘 두 가지가 존재함’, ‘다름을 알게 됨’, ‘이중언어의 득과 실을 경험함’, ‘나를 통해 한국과 모(母)국이 잇닿음’, ‘터득과 소멸이 공존함’으로 분석되었다. 즉, 다문화 가정 아동의 이중언어는 두 가지의 언어뫄 문화를 터득해 감과 동시에 소멸이 공존하고 있는 경험임을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 기반으로 학교를 비롯한 아동 청소년 관련 실천 현장의 전문가들에게 다문화 가정 아동이 또 하나의 한국인으로 자랄 수 있도록 돕기 위한 실증적인 대안을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find practical alternatives to help children of multicultural families to grow in a healthy way by understanding their bilingual experiences. For this, the study had a question, ‘What is the nature and meaning of bilingual experiences of children of multicultural families?’ and conducted a research with 5 children who use bilanguage and have non-English speaking mothers by applying Giorgi phenomenological research method. As a result of the study, 12 subjects were categorized and 5 center meanings were induced. Center meanings of bilingual experiences of children of multicultural families were ‘there always two things exist’, ‘realized a difference’, ‘experienced advantage and disadvantage of bilanguage’, ‘there was a connection between Korea and my own country through me’, ‘learning and extinction coexist’. Thus, it was found that bilanguage of children of multicultural families is an experience of co-existance of learning and extinction in a difference. Based on this result, practical alternatives to help children of multicultural families to grow as healthy Koreans were discussed by experts of children and youth related ptractice site including schools.
