소년원생의 수용생활과 교육에 대한 인식 조사연구

Abstract

This study aims to investigate juvenile reformatory inmates' recognition and evaluation of juvenile protection agencies, with a view to identifying problems and suggesting effective countermeasures against them. Investigations found that the inmates' recognition of the agencies initially started with a bad impression but would turn positive as time goes by. It is also found that what the inmates felt the most difficult was their 'restrained life' in a juvenile reformatory which is a kind of correctional institution. Anyhow, as a whole, the inmates thought that they had improved their character and/or emotion since they entered a juvenile reformatory and, in particular, bitterly regretted of their past days when they contradicted their parents and felt very sorry for that. In connection with juvenile protection agencies' educational courses, the inmates made more of job-related courses than other general subject courses and thought that the courses offered by juvenile protection agencies were practically helpful, more or less, to themselves. In relation to juvenile protection agencies' organizational reshuffle and functional coordination, they especially preferred such programs as ‘education on human nature,’ ‘development of and training in occupational capabilities,’ and ‘support for discharged inmates' successful return to their society.’
