사회적 자본과 빈곤 아동의 학업성취 간 관계에 대한 종단연구: 비빈곤 아동과의 비교를 중심으로

초록

본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 4~6학년 아동의 학업성취 변화궤적을 살펴보고, 사회적 자본이 빈곤 아동의 학업성취 변화궤적에 미치는 영향과, 이러한 경로에서 비빈곤 아동과 차이가 있는지를 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국아동․청소년패널조사의 초1 패널 중 4차년도부터 6차년도까지의 자료를 활용하여 다집단 잠재성장모형 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 아동의 학업성취는 학년이 올라갈수록 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모-자녀관계와 교우관계가 빈곤 아동의 학업성취 초기값에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 그 중에서도 교우관계가 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 부모-자녀관계가 학업성취에 미치는 영향력은 비빈곤 아동에 비해 빈곤 아동에게는 상대적으로 약하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 빈곤 아동의 학업성취 향상을 돕기 위한 정책적, 실천적 개입 방안을 제언하였다.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate developmental trajectory in the academic achievement of 4th - 6th grade children in elementary school and the effects of social capital on the academic achievement of poor children, as well as to compare non-poor children. Multi-group latent growth modeling was analyzed on first grade panels from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey, using data from the fourth to sixth year of the survey. First, the academic achievement of the children decreased as the grade increased. Second, parent-child relationship and peer relationship have a positive effect on the initial achievement of poor children, among which peer relationship has the greatest influence. Third, the effect of parent-children relationships on the academic achievement of poor children was less pronounced in comparison with non-poor children. Based on these results, I suggested a policy and practical intervention plan to help improve the academic achievement of the poor children.
