빈곤한 환경에서 자란 청년의 ‘좋은 성장’의미 탐색: 사회복지관을 이용한 청년의 회고적 경험을 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 빈곤한 환경 속에서 사회복지관을 이용하며 자란 청년의 경험을 통해 그들의 좋은 성장의 의미와 과정을 탐색하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구 수행을 위해 전국의 기관 실무자들과 좋은 성장의 개념에 대해 논의하였고 이를 토대로 종합사회복지관을 이용했던 청년 11명을 모집, 소집단으로 구성하여 초점집단인터뷰를 수행하였다. 수집된 자료는 주제분석을 통해 분석하였으며, 연구결과를 청년들의 좋은 성장의 의미, 청년의 성장에 도움이 된 부분을 중심으로 제시하였다. 첫째, 청년들의 좋은 성장의 모습과 의미는 주체적으로 노력함, 심리적으로 안정됨, 자기 능력을 신뢰함, 사회에 환원함, 가치를 추구함, 정체성을 통합해나감으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청년들의 성장에 도움이 된 부분은 개인적 노력, 주변의 지지체계, 복지관 등의 사회적 지원 활동 등인 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 청년들은 여전히 불확실성과 한계 속에서 여전히 무언가를 시도하고 나아가는 과정 중에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 사회복지실천에서 빈곤한 아동들의 성장을 지원하는 방안과 이들이 청년이 된 후에도 계속적인 사회적 지원이 필요함을 제언하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences, meanings, the process and tasks of successful growth for emerging adults who have grown up in poor environments. For this research, after the discussions about the standards of successful growth with social work practitioners, focus group interviews were conducted with 11 young adults who were recommended by the social welfare centers across the country. Thematic analysis is used to analyze the collected data, and the results are presented focusing on the meaning of successful growth recognized by emerging adults, and the process that led to successful growth. First, the meaning of successful growth for the emerging adults converged into independent efforts, trust in one’s own capacity, psychological security, seeking values and integrated identity. Second, individual efforts and the social support from the surroundings, welfare center, etc. were found to be helpful for the growth of the emerging adults. Despite this successful growth, emerging adults of this study still appeared to be in the process of trying something more amid uncertainty and limitations. Based on the results of the study, this study suggests some practical implications for the social work to support the growth of children from poor background and the need for continuous social support of these children as they reach emerging adulthood.
