본 연구는 사회복지사를 통해 빈곤아동의 좋은 성장에 대한 의미, 실천의 핵심 영역과 방식을 도출하기 위한 연구 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 빈곤아동 및 가족과의 실천 경험이 많은 사회복지사를 참여자로 하여 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 수행하였고, 수집된 자료는 주제분석방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 사회복지사가 바라본 빈곤아동의 좋은 성장의 의미는“미래에 대한 자기주도성”, “정서적인 안녕감과 회복력”, “타인과 관계를 잘 맺어가는 사회성”, “일상성과 정상성”, “제 몫 할 수 있는 사회구성원으로서의 책임감”으로 나타났다. 빈곤아동의 좋은 성장을 위해 사회복지사가 주목하고 있는 실천의 핵심 영역은 “아동의 내적 동기와 힘”의 차원, “아동의 성장 환경으로서의 가족관계와 부모 역할”, “아동의 성장발판으로서의 다각적인 기회와 자원”으로 나타났다. 빈곤 아동의 좋은 성장을 위한 사회복지 현장에서의 실천 방식은 “할 수 있는 것부터 하는 접근”, “스스로 할 수 있도록 지원하는 접근”, “부모와 협업하는 가족단위 접근”, “아동의 보폭에 맞추어 동행하는 접근”, “미래 지향적, 지속적 접근”으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 빈곤아동이 좋은 성장으로 나아가도록 지원하기 위한 사회복지실천의 과제를 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the concept, meaning and the practical implication for the ‘well-growing’ of the children in poverty through social workers. For this purpose, focus group interviews were carried out with social workers who had many experiences of child welfare practice. Collected data was analyzed using the theme analysis method. The results of the analysis are as follows. The meaning of the well-growing of impoverished children, as viewed by the social workers, includes “self-initiative for the future”, “emotional well-being and resilience”, “sociality for making good relationship with others”, “having routine and normality”, and “being a member of the society.” The core areas of social workers’ attention for the well-growing are “children’s inner motivation and power”, “family relationship and parents’ role as an environment for children’s growth”, and “various opportunities and resources as stepping stones for children's growth.” Practical approaches for children’s well-growing that social workers can take include “approaching from what is possible”, “approach to support a child to support oneself”, “family-based approach by collaborating with parents”, “approach to accompany the children following their pace”, and an “approach both future-oriented and continuous.” Based on the results, this study also provides some practical suggestions for supporting impoverished children’s well-growing.
