Abstract
In this study, the research develops and advocates for a sizing system-based 3D printing Physical Human–Robot Interface (pHRI) as a new approach that can improve the simple/optimal body-shape-fit problem of wearable robots for paralyzed people. The first ergonomic design step was to create a sizing system using the segmentation of size sections and an average human model generation technique for each section, and the second was to apply a variable structure that can adjust the position and shape of pHRI. It was established as a strategy and the research developed a 3D printing pHRI based on the sizing system. Through a single case comparison evaluation (pressure distribution and user satisfaction), it was confirmed that the sizing system-based 3D printing pHRI showed more effective body-shape-matching performance than the existing pHRI, and thus, its effectiveness was confirmed. The study is significant in that it presents a new approach to realizing the simple/optimal body-shape-fit of a wearable robot through 3D printing pHRI applying the sizing system and position and shape adjustment functions. In addition, the developed sizing system can be applied to various types of wearable robot pHRI, and its utility value can be expected from a standardized pHRI template library.
