국어 음운론의 유형론적 연구를 위한 제언

초록

국어 음운론에 대한 유형론적 고찰은 지금까지 제대로 이루어지지 못했다. 그런데도 국어 음운론의 유형론적 특징이 별다른 근거 없이 제시되고 있다. 국어 음운론의 유형론적 연구가 본격적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 연구자들이 고려해야 할 몇 가지 사항들이 있다. 무엇보다도 유형론 연구에는 자료가 중요하다. 자료를 최대한 확보하는 것도 필요하지만 이것을 다시 통일된 체계에 따라 선별하지 않으면 안 된다. 또한 확보된 자료들의 성격을 잘 파악하여 수용하는 것도 고려해야 한다. 이처럼 다른 언어들의 자료가 충분히 축적되면 국어 음운론의 내용을 유형론 연구에 적합하도록 조정하는 작업이 뒤따라야 한다. 가령 음운 체계의 경우 대조의 기준이 되는 음소 목록을 확정해야 할 뿐만 아니라, 각 음소의 IPA 표시도 구체화해야 한다. 또한 국어 음운론의 유형론적 특징은 다른 언어와의 차이점 못지 않게 공통점에서도 찾을 필요가 있다. 이를 통해 국어 음운론의 내용이 언어 보편성 또는 특수성의 관점에서 어떠한 모습을 보이는지 온전하게 이해할 수 있다.

Abstract

The typological examination of Korean phonology has not been done properly until now. However, the typological features of Korean phonology were presented without any grounds. There are several things that researchers should consider in order for the typological study of Korean phonology to take place in earnest. First of all, language material is important for studying typology. It is also necessary to secure the data as much as possible, but this must be selected again according to a unified system. It is also important to consider the nature of the secured data and accept it. If enough data of other languages ​​are accumulated, the contents of Korean phonology should be adjusted to fit the study of typology. For example, in the case of a phonemic system, it is necessary to establish a list of phonemes that are the basis of the verification and to determine the IPA indications of each phoneme concretely. In addition, the typological characteristics of Korean phonology need to be found not only in its difference but also in its common points with other languages. Through this, we can see what the contents of Korean phonology have features in terms of linguistic typology.
