초록

본 논문은 우리나라에서 지난 40여 년간 남성과 여성의 노동공급이 어떻게 변화해 왔는지를 살펴본다. 분석 결과는 크게 세 부분으로 요약된다. 첫째, 우리나라에서 성별 노동공급의 격차는 점차 줄어들고 있으며, 이는 주로 여성의 노동공급이 대졸자 및 서비스업 종사자를 중심으로 증가했기 때문이다. 둘째, 장시간 근로자의 비중은 감소한 반면 시간제 근로자 비중은 증가하는 추세를 보인다. 셋째, 최근 코호트로 올수록 생애 초기에 노동공급이 줄고, 후기에 노동공급이 늘어나는 현상은 남성과 여성 모두에게서 관측되지만 여성의 경우 결혼과 출산 등으로 인해 노동공급의 감소가 발생하는 시점이 늦추어지고, 감소폭의 크기 역시 줄어들고 있음을 추가로 확인하였다.

Abstract

This paper examines changes in the labor supply of Korean men and women over the four decades. I document three stylized facts. First, the gender gap in labor supply has narrowed, primarily due to increased labor supply of women with 4-year college degrees and those employed in the service sector. Second, the share of workers working excessive hours has decreased, while the share of part-timers has increased. Third, recent cohorts tend to work less at younger ages and work more at older ages for both genders, although the changes in female labor supply over the life cycle are more nuanced.
