본 연구는 경제활동인구조사 부가조사를 이용하여 한국의 성별임금 및 격차의 분포를 살펴보고 성별임금격차에 대한 요인을 분위회귀 방법을 사용하여 살펴보고자 한다. 분석결과, 임금의 성별격차는 저소득 근로자 그룹에서 그 정도가 가장 낮고 임금근로자의 중상위 수준에서 가장 큰 경향을 보인다. 또한, 분위회귀분석을 이용한 격차요인의 분석 결과, 중상위 임금 층에서 증대된 성별임금의 격차는 기본적 인적자본 요소의 차이 외에, 여성의 경력단절이 중요한 부분을 차지함을 볼 수 있었다. 더불어 성별 산업 및 직종 분리가 성별임금격차를 상당 부문 설명하는 요소임을 확인하였다. 논문의 분석 결과는 여성 인적자원의 질을 향상시키는 장기적 정책 외에 결혼 및 육아로 인한 여성의 경력단절을 최소화하는 제도적 장치를 지속적으로 발전시켜야 함을 시사한다
Abstract
Using data from the Economically Active Population Survey (EAPS), this paper analyzes the gender log wage gap across the wage distribution in Korea. The data generally indicates that gender wag gap increases throughout the wage distribution. Employing counterfactual quantile regression decomposition, I find that the acceleration in the gender gap across the distribution is largely attributed to women’s career interruption as wells as gender differences in human capital. These results highlight the importance of policies that help female workers to balance work and family responsibilities.
