Abstract
This study analyzes Korea’s income inequality using key indicators such as the Gini coefficient, income quintile share ratio, and relative poverty rate through data-driven methods. The findings show that Korea’s Gini coefficient has steadily increased since 2006, exceeding the OECD average, while labor-market dualization, rising asset prices, and intergenerational wealth disparities are major contributors to inequality persistence. The expansion of non-regular and platform employment further intensifies income volatility among lower-income groups, and high elderly poverty remains a critical structural weakness. The study highlights that Korea’s income inequality is shaped by multiple interacting factors and underscores the need for targeted, evidence-based policy interventions.
