개정 국어과 교육 과정에 따른 '화법' 교과서 개발 방향 - 내용의 선정 및 조직을 중심으로-

이 논문은 개정 국어과 교육 과정에 따른 고등학교 선택 과목 ‘화법’의 교과서 개발 방향을 제시한 것이다. 필자는 개정 교육 과정의 맥락과 주요 내용을 검토하고, 이를 바탕으로 선택 과목으로서의 ‘화법’ 과목의 위상과 화법 교과서의 성격을 논의한 후, 화법 교과서의 내용 구성 방안을 중심으로 개발 방향을 제시하였다. 화법 교과서의 성격과 내용 구성 방안에 대한 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 화법 교과서는 ‘국어’ 과목의 ‘듣기․말하기’ 영역과 구별되는 이론적 깊이와 실용성을 갖추어야 하며, 교양 과목으로서 학습자가 현재와 미래에 필요로 하는 화법 교양을 제공할 수 있도록 내용을 구성하여야 한다. 검정 체제에서 교육 과정의 내용을 재구성할 여지는 많지 않다. 따라서 내용의 선정에서는 교육 과정의 세부 내용에 대한 충실한 반영이 관건이 된다. 그러나 내용의 조직과 자료의 선정 측면에서는 창의적인 재해석이 가능할 것이다. 교육과정의 내용 체계를 반영한 단원 구성 방식으로는 내용 체계를 교과서 단원 구성 체계와 일치시키는 방식, 세부 내용 요소를 재구성하는 방식, 화법의 실제 즉 담화 유형을 중심으로 단원을 구성하는 방식, 화제 중심으로 창조적으로 재구성하는 방식 등이 가능하다. 화법 교과서 개선을 위하여 제기되는 과제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교육 과정 해석의 유연성이 보장되어야 한다. 둘째, 화법 교육 내용 자체에 대한 깊이 있는 탐구, 특히 다양한 담화 유형에 대한 기초 연구가 있어야 한다. 셋째, 화법 과목을 담당할 교사의 직접 참여가 확대되어야 한다. 넷째, 화법 교수 학습을 지원할 멀티미디어 자료의 제작과 지속적인 업데이트 체계가 갖추어져야 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present the direction of development of the ‘speech communication’ textbook according to the revised national (Korean) language curriculum for a selective high school course. The author reviews the context and content, discusses the status and nature of the subject and proposes the direction of development of the textbook, which involves focusing on the selection and organisation of contents. The ‘speech communication’ textbook should be distinguished from the ‘listening and speaking’ strands in Korean language study in terms of its theoretical and practical dimensions. It must also teach learners to cultivate their knowledge and skills of speech communication. Under the current textbook screening systems, it is difficult to select the curriculum contents; however, in organising the contents and selecting the materials, there is scope for creative reinterpretation. The author suggests a possible method of organising the textbooks' units as follows：ensure their equi- valency to the content arrangements of the curriculum, reconstruct the contents in a detailed manner, organise with a focus on discourse types and creatively reorganise the contents according to the variety of topics. The challenge of improving the textbook is as follows. First, the flexibility of interpreting the curriculum should be ensured. Second, in-depth research on the content of speech communication itself is needed, especially regarding various types of discourse. Third, the direct par- ticipation of teachers should be expanded. Fourth, multimedia teaching and learning materials to support the education process should be provided.
