본 논문은 이탈리아 출신 철학자이자 미학자인 조르조 아감벤(Giorgio Agamben, 1942∼)의 공백(빈 공간) 개념을 소개하고, 이를 그의 예술론과 연결하여 설명하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 아감벤의 이론에서 가장 중요한 개념은 호모 사케르와 예외상태이다. 그는 이 개념들을 설명하는 여러 장소에서 공백(빈 공간)이라는 말을 자주 그리고 중요하게 사용한다. 이 논문은 아감벤의 여러 아티클과 저서에서 공백을 다루는 장소들을 추적하면서, 그것이 지니는 의미를 비식별영역과 무위(無爲)로 나누어 설명하고 있다. 그리고 이렇게 발견한 공백의 의미를 아감벤의 예술론에 대입하면서, 예술의 새로운 역할과 과제를 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
This article introduces the concept of void(empty space) by Giorgio Agamben (1942-), an Italian philosopher and aesthetician, and explains it in connection with his art theory. The most important concepts in Agamben’s theory are Homo sacer and a state of exception. He uses the word void frequently and significantly in several places to explain these concepts. Therefore, this article traces the places that deal with this void in Agamben’s various articles and books, and explains the meaning of it by dividing it into categories of zone of indistinction and inactivity. And this article presents new roles and tasks of art by substituting the meaning of the void found in this way into Agamben’s theory of art.
