This study discusses a new direction for teaching speaking and listening skills in Korean. Korean and other foreign language education needs to be expanded and integrated in the areas of MunSaChul (literature, history, philosophy), technology and storytelling. The direction of teaching Korean has to change in order to reflect the needs of a globalized society and the advancement of technology. This study provides a critical review of Korean speaking and listening education research embedded in Korean language programs, textbooks, teaching methods and testing. Korean speaking and listening domains should undergo changes to provide a customized curriculum for the Korean learner with authentic educational content, digitalized textbooks, valid task-based testing and so on.
