The purpose of this study is to analyze the changes of Korean language life in the 1970s and 2010s and to draw implications for speech communication education. The subject of discourse analysis is the youth films High School Yalgae (1977) and Children of Heaven (2012), with a time difference of 35 years. The analysis of teachers’ and students’ dialogue revealed that, first, teachers in the 1970s used more authoritarian and coercive speech than did teachers in the 2010s. Second, more violent language appeared in the dialogue between students in the 2010s than in the dialogue between students in the 1970s. Third, the current teacher–student relationship was found to be more rebellious than in the 1970s.
