A Study on the Diagnostic Method of Teacher’s Speech Style Using Learner Evaluation and an AI Interview System

This study attempted to devise a plan to objectively and multifacetedly diagnose teachers’ speech styles and to present actual diagnostic results on a pilot basis. To this end, test items were derived based on previous studies related to speech style and learners’ responses. The class voices of four pre-service teachers were extracted and uploaded to YouTube, and 117 college students were asked to rate their speech through a Google questionnaire; results were statistically processed with SPSS. In addition, the four pre-service teachers were asked to participate in an AI interview, and the results were analyzed. Results show that the teachers’ speech styles as perceived by the learners consisted of four dimensions: intimacy, compassion, cheerfulness, and stability; furthermore, the teachers’ speech styles could be differentiated. The analysis of teacher speech by the AI interview system was confirmed to be substantially consistent with the diagnostic results by human learners. This paper is meaningful in that it has prepared a plan to objectively diagnose teachers’ speech styles. Teachers’ speech style diagnostic tools with proven reliability can be used as educational content for teacher speech and can be conveniently used in the pre-service teacher training process.
