결사의 정체성을 통해 본 淸代 天地會의 역사상

초록

본 논문에서는 천지회를 구성하는 세 가지의 세계, 즉 기원전설의 세계, 내부형성의 세계, 외부활동의 세계를 천지회의 역사상을 복원하기 위한 결사의 공간으로 설정하고, 이러한 공간이 서로 어떻게 연결되어 있었는지를 파악하기 위해서 그 구체적인 접근 방법으로써 각각의 공간에서 탄생하여 그것을 매개했던 결사의 정체성 문제에 주목하였다. 그 결과 강희파의 주장대로 반청복명의 천지회와 건륭파의 입장처럼 상호부조의 천지회로 양분하여 어느 한쪽의 대문자 단수의 정체성을 강조하는 기존의 연구는 천지회의 역사상을 수립하는데 결코 성공할 수 없음을 비판하면서, 그 대신 천지회는 상호부조의 정체성, 반청복명의 정체성, 생존수단의 정체성이라는 사회적․정치적․경제적 성격의 복수의 소문자 정체성을 가진 결사였음을 새롭게 밝혀내었다. 요컨대 천지회를 구성하고 있는 세 가지의 세계와 그 각각의 공간에서 탄생하여 그것을 매개했던 복수의 소문자 정체성을 제대로 간파하는 것이야말로 천지회의 역사상을 수립할 수 있는 가장 중요한 척도였던 것이다.

Abstract

In fact, the Heaven and Earth Society is not a unified like the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Xingzhong Society, but a dispersed and independent group with many people participating, established and dissolved multiple times in the southern China region and overseas, mainly in Guangdong. Considering this, we believe that if we adopt a research perspective similar to that of the Kangxi or Qianlong schools to examine the history of the Tiandihui, it will hinder our understanding of it. Guided by this idea, this article attempts to examine the scattered and independently active the Heaven and Earth Society as a whole. Based on this, with the transparency of the Heaven and Earth Society activities as the main content, the world that constitutes the Heaven and Earth Society is divided into “Internally formed world” and “Externally active world”, as well as “Origin legends world”. Firstly, a longitudinal study is conducted on these two parts during the period of approximately 150 years from the middle of Qianlong to the middle of Guangxu, and then the historical truth of the Heaven and Earth Society is understood by examining their horizontal connections. The conclusion of this article indicates that it is impossible to successfully understand the essence of the Heaven and Earth Society from the perspectives of the two schools of thought in the academic community, namely the Kangxi School with the aim of restoring the Ming Dynasty and the Qianlong School with the aim of mutual assistance. Due to its positive nature of mutual assistance, determination to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and restore the Ming Dynasty, and its positive nature as a means of survival, the Heaven and Earth Society has played a role in history due to its diverse social, political, and economic aspects. The Heaven and Earth Society, which emerged on the historical stage in the 26th year of the Qianlong reign, experienced the establishment and disintegration of scattered and independent associations in Guangdong and other places multiple times in the 19th century. Therefore, the interaction between their original wholeness caused varying degrees of adjustment and diversity of differences. And it is precisely the diversity of these harmonies and differences that is the most important scale for understanding the essence of The Heaven and Earth Society.
