Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among protean career orientation, job crafting, and internal and external employability of millennial female office workers in large corporations. In pursuance of the study purpose, data of millennial female office workers, who had at least three years of working experience at large companies in the list of the Fair Trade Commission, were collected through an online survey. Finally, 267 cases were considered for this study. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. The findings revealed that the protean career orientation did not have a significant effect on internal employability, but had a significantly positive effect on external employability; the protean career orientation was found to have a significantly positive effect on job crafting. Additionally, job crafting had a significantly positive effect on both internal and external employability, respectively. Finally, job crafting had a mediating effect on the relationship between protean career orientation and internal and external employability. This study provides significant insights and the empirical research evidences show that it is important to strengthen the protean career orientation, and promote job crafting in the workplace in order to increase internal and external employability for the sustainable career development of millennial female office workers. On the basis of the research results, this study also presents academic and practical implications.
