노처녀' 담론의 형성과 문학양식들의 반향

이 글은 18세기 중․후반 시정담론으로 집중 부상된 ‘노처녀’ 담론의 형성과 이에 상응하여 반향을 일으킨 여러 문학 양식들의 담론양상을 살펴보는 데 주요 목적을 두었다. 그런 가운데서도 논의의 초점은 조선 후기 詩歌史에 있어서 크게 주목받아온 가사, <노처녀가>(1/2)를 둘러싼 담론층위의 성격을 밝히는 데 놓여져 있다. <노처녀가>는 조선후기 가사의 서사화과정을 여실하게 보여주는 작품이란 점에서, 그리고 조선후기 서민의식을 매우 흥미롭게 보여주는 작품이란 점에서, 또 노처녀가 진술의 주체가 되어 자신을 희화화하면서 모순된 현실을 고발하는 작품이라는 점에서 크게 주목받아왔다. 그런데 텍스트이본을 좀더 세밀하게 추적해보면 <노처녀가>(1/2)는 ‘가사의 서사화’를 뒷받침할만한 어떤 단서도 제공해주지 않으며, 오히려 서사적 특성이 좀더 강한 노처녀가(2)가 선행담론을 함의한 텍스트라는 사실이 발견된다. 그러나 이 글은 단순히 텍스트의 선․후행 담론에 관한 시차를 논하려고 한 것은 아니며, ‘노처녀담론’이 18세기후반 특정 ‘사혼사건’을 계기로 시정에 두루 형성되었고, 그것이 당대는 물론 그 이후에도 지속적으로 시조, 가사, 희곡, 소설이라는 여러 문학양식들의 반향을 일으켜왔다는 점을 밝혀보고자 했다. 이런 각도에서 바라보면 ‘노처녀담론’은 우리 문학사에 하나의 문학적 소재를 두고 4大 문학 양식이 동시에 반응을 보인 매우 흥미로운 사례로 보고될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper focuses on the formation process of 'old maid' discourse which gave a significant influence on the theme and style of Korean literature in the 18․19th centuries. The main focus the study is doubtlessly on the analysis of No-cheo-nyo-ga(Old Maid Song) that has attracted the attention of literary people in the field of lyrics in the later period of Joseon dynasty. In fact, No-cheo-nyo-ga occupies an important part in the history of Korean literature in that it not only demonstrates the transformation of gasa into epic style but reflects the social consciousness of common people in the period through the old maid's satirical comment on social absurdity in the song. In the meanwhile, a minute examination of some other texts suggests that No-cheo-nyo-ga provides no specific clue that proves the epical trasformantion of gasa literature. In spite of that, it is fully noteworthy that this song has exerted a great influence on the literature of later period including sijo, play, novel as well as gasa as a typical theme of Korean popular literature.
