심화교양으로서의 ‘ 문화간 의사소통’ 수업모형

최근 몇 대학에서는 기존 교양 과목의 질을 향상시키고 내용과 교수 방법의 형태를보다 강화한교양강좌가 핵심교양혹은 심화교양이라는이름 아래개설되고 있다. 서울에 있는 S대의 경우에는 2006년 1학기부터 학습내용과 교수 방법이 한층 강화된 인문학 중심의 심화교양 과목을 편성하였다. 심화 교양은 현대 사회를살아가는데필요한 내용을 다학문적으로접근하고, 특정지식의 심화보다는 사고 및 판단 능력, 사유방식의 심화를 강조하는 성격을 띠고 있다. 본연구는S대학에서 시범적으로 실시하고 있는 심화교양 프로그램 중에서 영어영문학과에서 개발한 교과목인 ‘문화 간 의사소통’의 수업 내용, 수업 모형, 학생평가의 결과를 보고하였다. 여기서 제공되는 정보는 앞으로 영어 관련 학과 교수들이 심화/핵심 교양과 유사한 교과목을 개발할 때 참고할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
A recent trend in university curriculum development in Korea is that general education is strengthened in terms of content and teaching methodologies. Some universities including Seoul National University, Korea University, and The University of Seoul have developed courses called the Comprehensive General Subject to improve the quality of general education. This study first explains the nature of the Comprehensive General Subject and the background of the development of a course, 'Intercultural Communication' in The University of Seoul. This is a case study where the content, the teaching model, and the student evaluation of the 'Intercultural Communication' course are reported. It is expected that this case study will be able to provide English teaching professionals with useful information when they attempt to develop a Comprehensive General Subject.
