황진이 시조의 영어 프랑스어 번역 텍스트 비교 연구

시조는 한국 고유의 정형시이다. 그러므로 시조 번역의 문제에 있어서는 내용은 물론이고 형식성까지도 함께 고려한 번역이 이상적이다. 본고에서는 영어와 프랑스어로 번역된 황진이 시조 「청산리 벽계수야」의 다양한 번역본을 비교 검토한다. 시어의 선택과 어조의 문제, 행의 배치나 공간 혹은 세미콜론의 문제등의 관점에서 각 번역본을 검토함으로써 내용과 형식, 두 가지 측면에서의 효과적인 번역 방법을 모색한다.
Abstract
Sijo, a uniquely Korean genre of poetry is gaining more popularity than ever before in North America. This paper aims at exploring ways in which one can translate Sijo more truthfully to the original both in form and content. As much as Sijo poets compose Sijo abiding by certain formal elements such as a limit of dictions employed, three or six-line arrangement and the awareness of breath groups in the text, it is ideal that translators realize them in translation. For that purpose, this paper examines diverse versions of Sijo translation including three in French and two English. Comparing how translators rendered Hwang Jin-yi’s Sijo in French and English, this paper attempts to evaluate the gains and losses of each text in translation. By doing so, this paper ultimately suggests more comprehensive and effective manners of translating Sijo.
