말레이어 슬픔 개념화 연구: 번역과 외국어 학습을 중심으로

본 논문은 언어문학원 말뭉치를 통해 수집한 말레이어 슬픔 표현을 분석해 말레이어 슬픔 개념화 양상을 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 번역과 외국어 학습의 관점에서 감정 개념화 연구의 필요성을 논지하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구는 은유 <슬픔은 물체이다>, <슬픔은 천이다>, <슬픔은 적이다>, <슬픔은 그릇 속의 액체이다>, <슬픔은 질병이다> 등 13개의 말레이어 슬픔 개념화 양상을 확인하였다. 또한 말레이어 슬픔 표현에서 신체 부위 ‘간장’, ‘얼굴’, ‘눈’, ‘가슴’, 그리고 ‘뺨’이 자주 사용됨을 확인하였다. 이 밖에도 말레이어 화자들이 슬픈 감정에 부정적인 가치를 부여하고, ‘슬픔’을 ‘아래’, ‘무거움’, ‘쓸쓸함’, ‘쓸모없음’, ‘닫힘’의 개념과 관련지어 인지하고 있음도 밝혀냈다. 이어서 감정 개념화 연구가 번역의 적절성과 외국어 학습의 효율성에 도움이 됨을 역설하였다.
Abstract
This study examines how sadness is conceptualized in Malay by analyzing expressions of sadness collected using Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka corpus and draws attention to the need for research on the conceptualization of emotion, focusing on both translation and foreign language learning. This study identified a total of 13 conceptualizations of emotion in Malay (e.g., metaphors such as SADNESS IS AN OBJECT, SADNESS IS A CLOTH, SADNESS IS AN OPPONENT, SADNESS IS A LIQUID IN A CONTAINER, SADNESS IS A DISEASE, etc.). Furthermore, it discovered that the individual parts of the body, such as the liver, face, eyes, chest, and cheek, are frequently used in the Malay sadness expressions. In addition, it was observed that Malay native speakers put negative values on the emotion of sadness and cognize it by making a connection with various concepts, such as lower part, heaviness, lonesomeness, uselessness, and closure. Finally, this study emphasized that research on the conceptualization of emotion is imperative to enhance the adequacy of translation and the efficiency of foreign language learning.
