본 논문은 아감벤의 발저 해석을 토대로 아감벤의 정치철학이 문학과 맺는 관계를 검토한다. 아감벤의 정치철학은 ‘조에’와 ‘비오스’의 구분에 토대를 둔 서구 법치국가와주권 권력의 아포리아적 구조를 폭로하고, 이러한 아포리아를 돌파할 수 있는 가능성으로 저러한 구분을 넘어서는 ‘삶-의-형태’에 대한 전망을 제안한다. 그것은 인간 존재를 어떤 정치적 본질이나 신학적 목적에 종속시키지 않고 자신의 모든 속성과 잠재적관계를 맺는 임의적 존재로 바라보는 전망이다. 아감벤의 사유에서 이러한 전망의 구체화는 문학의 몫이다. 그중에서도 발저의 구제불능한 무위도식자들과 산책자들은 아감벤에 따르면 신학과 정치학의 구원론에서 벗어나 완전히 세속화된 세계를 살아가는임의적 존재들의 ‘자연적 쾌활함’과 행복을 잘 보여준다. 하지만 아감벤의 이러한 주장은 발저의 텍스트에 대한 최소한의 충실한 해석보다는 다소 자의적인 인용법에 기대고있으며, 필요한 논증이 생략되어 있는 경우도 많다. 이런 방식의 문학 사용은 아감벤이제시하는 정치철학을 도로 신비화시키고, 정치학이나 철학에 대한 문학의 기여 자체가가질 수 있는 의미를 공허하게 만들 위험이 있다.
Abstract
This essay examines the relationship of Agamben's political philosophy to literature, especially based on his interpretation of Robert Walser's literature. His political philosophy aims to expose the aporetic structure of the political and juridical power of western sovereignty, which is based on the distinction between zoē and bios, and to propose, as a way out of this structure, a politics of forma-di-vita. This means a politics that recognizes life as itself, which is not subject to any political or theological telos, and as a whatever being that preserves potential references to all its properties. In Agamben’s thinking, the role of concretizing this prospect belongs to literature. Especially, Walsers' irredeemable idlers and walkers are, according to Agamben, one of the best examples to show the natural joy and bliss of a whatever being living in the absolutely profane world. This interpretation, however, relies less on the faithful reading of the Walser’s text than on the more or less arbitrary quotation method, and we miss often therefore the necessary arguments. This way of using literature can lead to the mystification of political philosophy, leaving the meaning of the contribution of literature to philosophy and politics almost empty and groundless.
