본 연구는 아감벤의 예외상태론을 그가 인용하는 두 사상가, 슈미트와 벤야민을 통해 분석한다. 슈미트가 말하듯 예외상태란 개념은, 주권자가 체제의 위기를 해결하기 위해 특단의 조치를 취하는 일시적인 상황으로 정의되어 왔다. 그러나 아감벤은, 현대 정치에서 예외상태는 더 이상 일시적인 현상이 아니며, 근대 생체권력이 헐벗은 삶을 지배하게 만드는 배경이 되었다고 말한다. 그는 예외상태가 가져오는 무질서 속에서 생체권력이 해체될 수 있다고 생각하며 이 가능성을 벤야민이 제시하는 신적폭력에서 찾고 있다.
Abstract
This article analyzes G. Agamben’s theory of the state of exception by examining the thoughts of C. Schmitt and W. Benjamin. The state of exception has been defined as a temporary situation which demands the significant decision of the sovereign. But Agamben asserts that it is not any more a temporary phenomenon, but became the permanent condition of biopower. He supposes that the chaos, which the state of exception brings, makes possible dissolution of the sovereign power through Bemjamin’s divine violence.
