본 연구는 에테아 호프만(E.T.A Hoffman)의 「사촌의 구석 창문」(Des Vetters Eckfenster, 1822), 「적막한 집」(Das Öde Haus, 1817)과 에도가와 란포(江戸川 乱 歩)의 「지붕 속 산책자」(屋根裏の散歩者, 1925)에 나타나는 도시산책자 모티프의 양상을 분석한다. 각 작품은 각각 베를린과 도쿄라는 근대 도시 공간과 밀접한 관계에 있다는 점, 그리고 이것이 작품의 출현에 핵심적이라는 점을 공유한다. 더욱이 이러한 도시 공간을 체험하는 도시산책자가 작품에 전면 등장해 서사를 주도한다는, 보다 결정적인 측면에서 공통점을 지닌다. 이러한 공동 지반을 토대로 무엇보다 본 논문이 조명하는 지점은 각 작품 속에 드러나는 도시산책자의 독특한 양상이다. 구체적으로 이 특징을 ‘정지된 도시산책자’, ‘도착적 도시산책자’ 라는 키워드로 포착함으로써 기존의 도시산책자의 외연을 확장하고 그 안에 내재된 역설적 요소와 변용된 형태를 포착해보고자 한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes aspects of the flâneur motif in E.T.A Hoffman’s Des Vetters Eckfenster(1822), Das öde Haus(1817), and Edogawa Ranpo’s The Stalker in the Attic(1925). These literary works exhibit a strong interconnection with the modern metropolises of Berlin and Tokyo, playing a pivotal role in their development. Notably, a common thread among them is the central presence of the flâneur figure who intimately engages with these modern metropolis, shaping the narrative. Based on this ground, what this paper will focus on above all else is the unique aspect of the flâneur that appears in each work. In particular, through the application of the terms “stationary flâneur” and “perverted flâneur,” this study aims to broaden the scope of the conventional flâneur archetype, thereby exploring its paradoxical aspects and transformative manifestations.
