인포그래픽 활동을 통한 초등영어 학습의 효과 분석

본 연구의 목적은 인포그래픽을 활용한 수업정리 활동이 초등영어학습자들의 영어능력과 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 초등영어학습자 45명을 대상으로 4주간의 실험 수업을 진행하였으며 주요 연구도구로는 영어능력 검사지, 정의적 영역 설문지와 학생 성찰일지가 활용되었다. 인포그래픽을 활용한 처치반과 교과서 기반의 일반적인 수업을 진행한 통제반과의 결과를 분석하면 다음과 같다. 우선 영어능력 검사지를 통해 살펴본 두 집단 간의 사후 점수의 변화를 살펴보면 인포그래픽을 활용한 처치반의 평균이 높은 것으로 나타났으며 다만 독립 표본 t-검정 결과 두 집단 사이에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 보이지 않았다. 각 집단 내 영어능력의 변화 추이를 대응 표본 t-검정을 통해 분석한 결과, 처치반은 통계적으로 유의미한 향상을 나타내었다. 이어 인포그래픽 기반 활동이 초등영어학습자들의 정의적 영역(흥미도, 자신감, 동기, 학습태도, 자기주도적 참여)에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 사전-사후 설문 결과를 분석한 결과, 흥미도와 동기, 자기주도적 참여면에서 두 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 집단 내 정의적 영역에 대한 변화를 대응 표본 t-검정을 통해 살펴본 결과, 처치반에서 흥미도와 자신감, 동기 및 자기 주도적 참여면에서 통계적으로 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 마지막으로 성찰일지를 통해 참여자들의 인식을 살펴본 결과 인포그래픽 기반 활동이 수업에 대한 지식과 정보 확장 측면, 협동심과 배려, 영어 학습에 대한 관심과 흥미 유발에도 효과적인 것으로 인식하고 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this present study aims to identify the effects of the infographic activity on the English ability and affective factors in a primary English class. To meet these goals, a 4-week case study was administered with 45 primary ELLs. An English proficiency test, a survey on affective domains and a reflective journal, as a focal research instrument were utilized for data analysis. The findings were revealed as follows. First, the treatment group showed a higher mean score in the post-English proficiency test than the control group, whilst there was no significant difference between two groups in independent t-test. But there was a significant difference in the treatment group in paired samples t-test. Second, as for the affective domains(interest, motivation, self-directedness), there was a significant difference between two groups. Besides, there was a significant difference in interest, confidence, motivation, self-directedness in the treatment group in paired samples t-test. Lastly, the analysis of the reflective journal illustrated three key themes of the infographic activity such as the expansion of the new information and knowledge, the escalation of the cooperation and consideration, and the development of the interest and motivation for learning.
