영어 만화짓기를 활용한 초등영어 쓰기능력 향상 연구

본 연구의 목적은 영어 만화짓기 활용 수업이 초등영어 쓰기 능력과, 영어 쓰기에 대한 흥미도 및 자신감에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 인천지역 초등학교에서 동질성이 검증된 5학년 2개 반을 선정하여 영어 만화짓기를 활용한 수업과 일반적인 영어수업을 실시한 후 결과를 비교하였다. 만화 교재로 활용한 자료는 현행 교과서이며, 만화 교재를 학습한 후 학습자들이 창의성을 발휘하여 자신의 생각을 그림으로 그리고 말풍선에 들어갈 문장을 써 넣는 만화짓기 활동 을 하게 하였다. 실험기간 후 실시된 평가에서 만화짓기 활용 수업을 한 집단은 일반적인 영어수업 집단과 비교하여 영어 쓰기 능력 성취도 검사에서 의미있는 차이를 보였으며 영어 쓰기에 대한 흥미도와 자신감 검사에서도 유의미한 향상을 보인 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate an effective writing instruction by applying English cartoon composing to elementary EFL classes, especially focusing on the students' English writing skills and affective domain. The study subjects were 60 fifth grade students of an elementary school in Incheon who were selected through a diagnostic test examining their English reading and writing readiness, confidence and interest in English writing. They were divided into the experimental group and the control group, and English cartoon composing were applied to the former and regular textbook teaching, to the latter. A post-test after the 14-week experimental lessons shows that the experimental group made higher achievement in English writing than the control group. It also shows that both confidence and interest in English writing of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. This result means that English cartoon composing can help the students improve their writing abilities and bring positive effect on students' affective domain.
