한국인 EFL 학습자들이 사용하는 부사 인식태도표지어(Epistemic Stance Markers) 의미영역 분석: 구어학습자 코퍼스 기반으로

본 연구의 목적은 한국인 EFL 학습자들이 구어에서 사용하는 부사 인식태도표지어를 분석하는 것이다. 의사소통 과정에서 인식태도표지어는 화자의 입장이나 태도를 전달하는 중요한 역할을 한다. 관련해서 이번 연구는 이렇게 사용되는 인식태도표지어 중 부사를 중심으로 어떤 의미영역으로 사용되는지 분석하고 학습자들의 언어구사능력 수준에 따른 사용 패턴도 분석한다. 이를 위해 6개의 의미영역(의심/확실성, 사실성, 불명확성, 정보원, 한계, 전망)을 기준으로 학습자 수준(초급, 중급, 상급)에 따른 부사 인식태도표지어 패턴을 분석한다. 자료분석에는 한국인 구어 학습자 코퍼스(BUFS Spoken Learner Corpus of English)를 원어민 참조 코퍼스인 BNC sampler의 구어 텍스트를 비교 분석했다. 연구 결과는 1) 의미 영역에 사용된 부사 인식태도표지어의 다양성, 2) 모국어 전이 이다. 첫째, 수준별 그룹에서 한국인 학습자들은 의미영역에 따른 태도표지어를 다양하게 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 각 의미영역에서 사용된 부사 태도표지어들은 학습자들의 모국어 사용과 유사한 패턴을 보인다. 이 연구 결과는 의식상승(Consciousness-raising)기법을 통해 원어민들이 실제 사용하는 부사 인식태도표지어의 기능을 습득하고 학습하는데 도움이 될 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to explore the use epistemic stance markers of adverbs used in Korean EFL learners’ spoken English. Since they have a role of conveying speakers’ feelings and assessment, it is worth to describe their use of stancetaking used in interactive communication. In this regard, the study analyzes semantic classes of adverbial marking of stance and their typical patterns used in the spoken texts according to Korean learners’ language proficiency. For this end, BUFS (Busan University of Foreign Studies) Spoken Learner Corpus of English (hereinafter called BLCE) is compared with the spoken texts of BNC sampler as a native reference corpus. The results show two distinctive features: 1) variational patterns of stance adverbials at each level 2) L1 transfer. Frist, Korean learners present different frequency patterns of the semantic categories in each level. Second, the use of stance adverbials is likely to be transferred from L1. These can be applied to raise learners’ consciousness on the sociocultural functions of expressing speakers’ stance.
