인하우스(in-house)통번역사의 직무경험에 관한 질적 사례연구

Abstract

This study aims at suggesting how to lead the translation class in the future based on the analysis of results drawn by in-depth interviews with 8 persons doing the in-house translation at domestic private companies as of March 2014. The interview results were analysed into 4 different categories ; to be an in-house translator, an organization and myself, my future, and for the students studying the translation. The result revealed that those interviewed, in fact, had no specific purpose to be the in-house translator but they found the jobs relating to translation instead, then have involved in working as the in-house translators at present. The results said that the in-house translators expressed satisfaction on their jobs even though they have faced difficulties with interpersonal relation at the organization, translation mistakes and less understanding of their companies’ affairs. However, the interviewees are all contract workers at the companies, indicating that there has no job security making them consider finding another job. They also want the students studying interpretation and translation to have more clear and specific purpose to find out jobs and ask the companies to improve their understanding and awareness of the in-house translation. Considering there have no many studies done about the in-house translation so far, the in-depth interview results have played a leading role to look into the difficulties, achievements, interpersonal relations, and hope of the in-house translators. In this light, the interview results can be a stepping stone to suggest more efficient directions of translation education through this study.
