본 연구에서는 일본어 특유의 연체수식 구문인 テノ명사구의 용법에 관한 실증적인 분석을 진행하였다. 대표적인 선행연구인 姫野(1983)에서는 テノ명사구의 용법을 (i)추이·연속, (ii)원인·이유, (iii)방법·수단·상황의 세 가지 카테고리로 나누고 있지만 이 세 가지 카테고리로 분류하기 어려운 용례들이 다수 관찰된다. 본고에서는『中納言』을 활용해서 テノ명사구의 용례를 수집하였고 그 중에서 500개의 용례를 샘플링하여 각각의 용법을 구체적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, テノ명사구의 용법은 기본적으로 (i)상황, (ii)수단, (iii)원인, (iv)관점, (v)범위, (vi)목적, (vii)해설의 7개의 카테고리로 나누어볼 수 있었다. テノ명사구의 용법을 분류하는 방식은 연구자의 문제의식이나 기준에 따라 달라질 수 있는 면이 있다. 하지만 선행연구에서는 본고에서 제시한 관점, 범위, 목적 등의 카테고리에 속하는 사례에 관한 검토가 이루어지지 못했다. 이러한 부분은 テノ명사구의 용법을 실증적으로 검토하지 못한 것과 밀접한 관계가 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 テノ명사구의 하위 카테고리를 분류한 다음, 각각의 카테고리에 속하는 사례가 어느 정도의 비율을 차지하고 있는지에 대해서도 검토하였다. 이러한 분석은 テノ명사구의 특성을 적절히 파악하는 것뿐만이 아니라 일본어교육에 활용하는 데에도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study is an empirical analysis about the usage of teno noun phrase which is one of Japanese-specific noun modification constructions. Himeno(1983), who authored one of the most prominent previous studies, classified the usage of teno noun phrase into three categories: (i)transition, cotinuation, (ii)cause, reason, (iii)method, means, situation. But a large number of examples are observed that hardly fall into one of these three categories. This study utilized ‘Chunagon’ to collect teno noun phrases and 500 examples we found were analyzed in detail. The key findings of this study are as follows. The usage of teno noun phrase could be divided into 7 categories: (i)situation, (ii)means, (iii)cause, (iv)perspective, (v)scope, (vi)purpose, and (vii)commentary. The method of classifying the usage of teno noun phrase may differ depending on the researcher’s intention and criteria. But, in previous studies, no analysis was made on cases belonging to categories such as ‘perspective’, ‘scope’, and ‘purpose,’ which are newly presented in this paper. This is closely related to the failure to empirically examine the usage of teno noun phrase. In this study, after re-classifying the categories of teno noun phrase in more detail, the proportion of examples in each category was also analyzed. It is expected that this analysis will not only help grasp the characteristics of the phrase, but also help instructors with their teaching.
