Abstract

So far, "Heonhwaga," or the Song of Offering the Flowers, has been regarded as a personal lyrical poem in the style of "hyangga," the Silla dynasty's vernacular poetry. In the meantime, "Haega" has been considered a translation of a Chinese poem with shamanistic and epic elements, and few studies have examined the relationship between the two literary works. In addition, if the word "人" in the phrase "人婦女" found in a verse of 'Lady Suro' refers to the same meaning as the word "人妻" found in ancient Japanese literature, i.e., a woman who was once a god's wife but was then permitted to marry a human, then Lady Suro in 'Heonhwaga,' who was originally married to a god, met a "old cattle herdsman," who As suggested in the 'Flower Song' of the 'Donghaean Byeolsingut,' the act of accepting flowers at this point can be interpreted as receiving a religious ritual instrument. This allows the literary work to be interpreted not only in a lyrical context, but also from a ritualistic and religious perspective. The phrase "if you are not ashamed of me" may have been added to provide moral justification for a body of law imposed by the central government. 'Haega' has been studied as a piece of religious and ritualistic poetry because its structure is nearly identical to that of 'Gujiga,' a religious poem composed 700 years earlier. In light of the case of 'Baetnorigut' of 'DonghaeanByeolsingut', it appears that Lady Suro, the wife of a god, was kidnapped by a dragon attempting to acquire a religious item known as 'Dragon's Ship'. Here, among the various meanings of "人" found in ancient Japanese literature, the expression "人婦女" is employed in a poem to challenge God, and Lady Suro is freed without harm. In addition, the line "How grave is the sin of stealing a man's wife" alludes to a similar moral justification in "Heonhwaga." It is believed that these expressions were frequently used during a time when royal authority was expanding and the legal system was taking root.
