사가(嵯峨) 천황의 한시연구 -‘은일(隱逸)’과 ‘여장(女裝)’을 중심으로-

Abstract

During the early Heian period, Emperor Saga-Tenno (786-842) exhibited a profound familiarity with Chinese poetry and possessed an exceptional aptitude for composing works in the Chinese poetic tradition. During this particular era, a significant number of Chinese poems were composed in various public settings. Additionally, the poems authored by Saga-Tenno and government officials were subsequently published in literary collections such as 『Ryounshu』, 『Bunkashureishu』, and 『Keikokushu』. Among these Chinese poetry anthologies, a significant portion is dedicated to poems authored by Saga-Tenno. This study aimed to analyze the distinctive features of Saga-Tenno's Chinese poetry, with a specific focus on the thematic elements of "reclusion" and "disguising oneself as a woman(female narrator)." The poetry in question draws inspiration from Chinese literary traditions, while also showcasing unique tastes and techniques that were developed within Saga's literary circle. During a period characterized by the prevalence of Chinese artistic styles, the Chinese poetry composed by Saga-Tenno played a pivotal role in the establishment of a distinct Japanese literary tradition. This tradition, in turn, exerted a significant influence on subsequent developments in Japanese Kana literature.
