Abstract
Silence is a novel that reveals Shusaku Endo's Christian views, situated at the intersection of literature and religion. It serves as a reflection of his quest to unravel his own faith, akin to solving a puzzle. The numerous biblical quotations posed by the character Rodrigues are, inessence, questions that Endo himself has articulated. The two enigmas that Shusaku Endo elaborates on A Life of J esus resonate with the questions posed by the characters in Silence. To decode these mysteries, it is necessary to engage in a comparative analysis with the Bible, through which the context of these enigmas can be explored and understood.
