본고는 21세기 현대음악 발전에 기여할 수 있는 새로운 관점의 작곡기법인 ‘형상음악’에 관한 연구 논문이다. ‘형상음악’이라는 것은 사물의 모습을 이루는 형상의 윤곽을 작곡가의 관점에 따라 분석하여 음악적 소재를 찾고, 그 소재를 논리적으로 작품에 적용하는 음악을 말하는 것이다. 즉, 사물의 형상을 통해 느끼는 ‘아름다움’에 대한 논리적 표현음악인 것이다. 따라서 본 논문은 형상음악을 위한 작곡기법의 활용적인 측면에서 기본적으로 적용할 수 있는 평면적 요소의 활용과 입체적 요소의 활용에 관한 구체적인 방법을 우선 제시하였다. 이에 따른 실제적 활용에 관한 대표적인 사항으로 자연물을 대상으로 한 사물의 형상(남해의 섬) 및 인공물을 대상으로 한 사물의 형상(광안대교) 분석을 통해, 형상음악 작곡기법의 활용을 위한 음악적 소재(음계 및 음군) 발굴에 대한 단계적 분석법을 보여주고 있다. 뿐만 아니라, ‘형상음악’이 현대음악의 새로운 장르로써 그 몫을 다할 것이라 기대하기에, 새로운 창작기법으로써 더욱 연구되어 미래음악에 사용될 수 있는 가능성에 대한 제시를 하고자 하였으며, 동시에 이를 토대로 한 새로운 작곡주의로써의 가능성 역시 있음을 예측하고자 하는 것이다.
Abstract
Configuration Music is a novel music composition technique that expresses inanimate objects in musical form by analyzing the physical shape of objects according to the composer’s own set of logical theories and applying that analysis in conjunction with music theories. Therefore, Configuration Music allows for a methodical approach to incorporate the beauty of inanimate objects in the creative process of music composition. In order to demonstrate the utility of Configuration Music, this Paper introduces a detailed methodology that is fundamental in employing two or three-dimensional objects in music composition. By analyzing a man-made structure (Gwangan Bridge) and a natural structure (an island in Namhae) as representative inanimate objects, this Paper illustrates the practical applicability of Configuration Music as a music composition technique in identifying relevant music theories (scales and/or pitch-class sets) in a methodical, step-by-step approach. Further, as a novel music composition technique, this Paper proposes that Configuration Music creates a new genre of 21st Century Modern Music and possesses unique characteristics that merit further study in its proposal as future music.
