본 연구는 수치지형도 자료를 이용한 지리정보시스템을 활용하여 북한의 평성시와 함흥시의 도시공간구조를 파악하고자 시도한 것이다. 평성시는 평양으로 들어가는 북쪽의 관문 역할을 하고 있는 도시로서 평양과 함께 장기적으로 북한 경제 구조전환의 중심지대로 발전될 잠재력이 높은 도시로 평가된다. 함흥시는 북한의 사회주의 이념이 그대로 투영되어 재건설된 역사적 도시이다. 수치지형도의 분석결과 함흥시는 함흥의 중심부와 흥남의 두 성장 중심축을 지니고 있다. 과거 행정구역 개편에 따라 두 도시로 분리되었던 적이 있던 만큼, 각각의 도시중심축이 따로 존재하고 있는데, 현재는 하나의 도시로 통합되어 있기 때문에 함흥의 중심권역과 흥남의 도심권역간의 유기적인 연계가 보다 원활하게 이루어져야 할 것으로 보인다. 북한의 도시공간구조는 정치적 논리에 따른 인위적인 공간구조를 유지하기 때문에 자본주의 국가의 도시와 같은 효율성을 고려한 공간구조로의 개편에는 한계가 있을 것으로 예상된다.
Abstract
This study tried to investigate urban structure of Pyeongsung city and Hamheung city in the North Korea by using geographic information system which uses digital topographic map. Pyeongsung city plays a role as a northern gateway to enter into Pyeongyang and is assessed having a high potential to be developed as hub for changing structure in economy of the North Korea in long term along with Pyeongyang. Hamheung city is a historical place which was reconstructed, reflecting socialist ideology of the North Korea. As a result of analyzing digital topographic map, Hamheung city has two growth central axises of center part of Hamheung and Heungnam. In the past, Hamheung city had ever been separated to two cities according to reorganization of administrative district so that central axis each city exists separately. But as now they are integrated to one, it would be necessary to have organic linkage between central area of Hamheung and downtown area of Heungnam. Because urban structure of the North Korea maintains artificial space structure according to political logic, there would be a limitation in reorganization into space structure considering same efficiency as in cities in capitalism nations.
