제주도의 남서부에 위치한 알뜨르 비행장은 일제강점기 때 일본 해군에 의해 군사적인 목적으로 건설된 제주도 최초의 비행장이다. 1933년 불시착륙장으로 사용하고자 일본 해군에 의해 조성되었던 알뜨르 비행장은 중일전쟁, 제2차 세계대전 동안 항공기지로 이용되었다. 이는 당시 알뜨르 비행장이 중국-일본과 한국을 잇는 지리적으로 중요한 지점에 위치하고 있었을 뿐만 아니라 군사적인 목적상 그 활용성이 매우 높았기 때문이었다. 또한 현재 근대문화유산인 등록문화재로 지정된 군사유적지인 알뜨르 비행장은 활주로, 격납고, 지하벙커로 구성되어 있어 문화재로도 중요하다는 점을 시사하고 있다.
Abstract
Alddreu airfield located in the southwest of Jeju island is built as the first airfield in Jeju island for the military purpose by Japanese Navy during the Japanese occupation period. This airfield was constructed as an emergency landing place and used as airbase for the Chino-Japanese War and the 2nd World War. It is because Alddreu airfield was located in the important site among China-Korea-Japan from the geographical perspectives and was high-valued place for the military purpose in terms of its usage. Furthermore, it is designated as a Registerd Cultural Property as the Modern Cultural Heritage. This indicates that Alddreu airfield consisting of runway, aircraft hangars and underground bunker is also important as cultural heritage.
